Alexander James Grace was my Great-Great Grandfather. He was born in 1833, and died at the Old Soldiers Home in Leavenworth, Kansas in 1897. He enlisted in the Union Army in Boscobel, WI in 1861, was captured near Atlanta on or about 22 July 1864, and was on a train taking him and others to the Confederate Prison at Andersonville when the train derailed. He escaped with a shoulder injury, and in May of 1865 made it back to his Company in Louisville, KY. He mustered out with his outfit on 16 July 1865, but suffered the rest of his life with shoulder injury. (info from VA records)
